This is Lorenzo de Zavala. He was born on October 3, 1789 in the village of Tecoh. (Present day Yucatan,Mexico).
Location of Colony: South Eastern Texas. Between Vehlein's grants and the Sabine River
Bodies of Water: Sabine River, Trinity River, and the Gulf of Mexico.
Major Towns: Present day Beaumont, TX, Galveston, TX, and Houston, TX.
Families: 500 families. He mainly wanted to interest Eastern Capitalists to buy land from his grant. However, he was okay with the people who fitted his overall needs.
Best Qualities: Fertile land, close to water, and away from most Indians.
Land For Each Family: If you are married, you shall be given 1 labor of land (177.1 acres) and if you would like to ranch, you will receive one sitio (4428.4 acres). If you are unmarried, you will get 1/4 of that land. Then, if you choose to marry, you will get the full amount of land. *If you are a foreigner and choose to marry a native Mexican, you will get an EXTRA 1/4 share of the given land!
Cost of Land: Once you started becoming successful, which is after 4 years, you will have to pay $30 for each sitio you own and around $3 for each labor you own.
Requirements: You were required to be a good person, a hard worker, a Mexican citizen, a person of the Catholic or Christian faith, and a trust worthy person. You would have to pay off your debts for your land.
